Day 1 april 23
After a lot of sleep (from 9 Pm untill 11 am) we woke up and had some breakfast. We talked a bit about everything that had happened and after that Peter took us for a drive through town. He told us about the history of port Elizabeth. And the apartheid.
We stopped at a little shed that was supposed to be a restaurant or a take away. We met a lovely woman that sold a sort of stew made out of cattle head. And she told us that she made around 150 rand per day profit and that she lost her husband a few years ago.
We drove further and we came across some people who were getting water we stopped and talked to them. Almost everyone who came to take the water were little children. One man said he had to get water 7 times everyday! We talked to the children. And left again we saw the big empty fields that had no houses but what they did have was a lot of plastic. Everyone there dumped their plastic. According to Peter even the white people came to the black neighborhoods to dump their waste.
We saw the ruins of a building and it apparently it was an old school. But because the government didn't pay any money to the school, all the teachers left and that is why the school is broken down.
We drove to a school that was set up by Dafne's father. The school is free for the children on Saturday and that there was only one teacher who used to work at a chocolate factory and now he teaches these children for free every weekend and he was a very nice guy he was white by the way. When we entered and all the children came to us and wanted a hug and we realized that these children do not get hugs from their parents. They are alone and do not get love from their parents. So when we arrived all they wanted were hugs and attention. They loved to be on pictures. We all picked them uw and Walked to this woman who lived a few houses (of Shoud I sheds) away. Her name was fransis and Peter wanted to pay her a visit. So we did when we left all the children came to us and said that they would miss us.
After all of that we went to a boy named samkelo in a home for people with a disability because it was his birthday. We stopped by the spar to get some cake and we visited him. His family rejected him and when he stayed with his grandmother drunk people sexually abused him but he cannot speak he literally not tell anyone. He wanted to commit suicide. He put his wheelchair in front of a car but it didn't work. So his birthday today and we came there to celebrate it when he saw Peter he screamed and was so happy. He even started crying. We put everyone together and we gave everyone a piece of cake. A woman wanted to take revenge on him because he put cake onto his face. So she did it to him it. We laughed very hard.
We went home and we drank something. After that we went to a pizzeria to eat pizza but the restaurant was closed. So we went to another restaurant. Everything is so cheap for us. We ate a full meal with 6 people for 655 rand that is 39 euro! We had a lovely dinner and now we are home ready to take a shower and go to bed tomorrow we are going to the church with Peter and Dafne
